Activities In The Forres Area

The Scottish Highlands are beautiful, and simply walking through the countryside is an unforgettable experience. But there is lots more to do in the area, all within easy reach.

Salmon fishing is a popular activity here, and there are two places nearby. The Spey River is 10 miles away, and The Findhorn is closer still. For golfers, there are 4 or 5 courses in the area. Forres Golf Course is the nearest, with Nairn on the shores of the Moray Firth.

Brodie Castle is an 8-mile drive away – nestled in parkland, there are antiques of every kind inside. On the edge of Elgin, Glen Moray whisky distillery is well worth a visit. It’s an informal place with tours and tastings on offer.

Inverness is 30 miles from the cottage, a cosmopolitan city with lots to offer. If fine dining is your thing, there are plenty of excellent restaurants to be found. There’s a red stone castle up on the hill, and in the centre, Inverness Cathedral is a spectacular building. Shops large and small are here, including the Scottish Kiltmakers where you can buy local products and glorious tartan.

A Final Note

With views of the Moray Firth and Findhorn Bay, this area of the Highlands is spectacular. Castles, hills, lochs and nature trails are waiting to be explored by the whole family. But if you want to stay close to home and take it easy then walks around the Burgie Estate offer some peace and quiet.

A cosy cabin with private hot tub is a luxurious holiday base from which to see it all. The kitchen is fully equipped so cooking up tasty meals can be done with ease. And pubs within a few minutes' drive serve up delicious fayre if you prefer to eat out.
