You may need to head to the outskirts for a lodge or cottage, as the town mainly has inns and hotels.

If you prefer a more tranquil setting, consider staying in one of the picturesque villages surrounding Windermere, such as Ambleside or Hawkshead. Ambleside, located at the northern end of Lake Windermere, offers charming streets, historic buildings and easy access to scenic walking trails. Still, if you want complete peace and quiet, Hawkshead is the better option. The delightful village is known for its cobbled streets and whitewashed cottages. It’s closely associated with Beatrix Potter, and you can visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery and her former home, Hill Top.
